Homemade Copycat Popeye’s Chicken

Ingredients:

– 2 lbs chicken pieces (drumsticks, thighs, wings)

– 2 cups buttermilk

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 tablespoon paprika

– 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper

– 1 tablespoon garlic powder

– 1 tablespoon onion powder

– 1 tablespoon dried thyme

– 1 tablespoon dried oregano

– Salt and black pepper to taste

– Vegetable oil for frying

Directions:

1. Place the chicken pieces in a bowl and pour buttermilk over them. Ensure all pieces are coated, then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for optimal marination.

2. In a separate bowl, combine flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.

3. Preheat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).

4. Take each marinated chicken piece, allowing excess buttermilk to drip off, and coat it thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture.

5. Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, frying until golden brown and cooked through. Ensure an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) is reached.

6. Remove the fried chicken and place it on a wire rack to drain any excess oil.

7. Serve the Homemade Copycat Popeye’s Chicken hot and enjoy the crispy, flavorful goodness.
